Three Questions Clients Ask
About Cosmetic Dentistry

Every day I see people in my practice who have hidden their stained or crooked teeth behind "closed mouth" smiles. When I tell them that with today's modern technologies I can give them a "star-quality" smile, they are hesitant but excited. Do cosmetic dentistry procedures really work? Is it worth the cost and time? Will a new smile really change my life?

The answer to these questions is a resounding yes! Read on . . .

Do cosmetic dentistry procedures really work?
A decade ago, dentists were limited in how they fixed or replaced broken or missing teeth. Early composite resins tended to stain and chip over time. Crowns were unstable and lasted only a few years. Missing teeth were replaced with "bridges" that used crowns on the anchor teeth. While these solutions improved a person's oral health, the results were often less than spectacular.

These days, things are much different. New "tooth colored" composite resins enable cosmetic dentists to patch minor chips and cavities in minutes without having to resort to crowns or amalgam (silver) fillings. Cosmetic dentists can quickly eliminate stains from teeth due to tobacco, coffee, or medications with professional teeth whitening. And, gaps and crooked teeth can be fixed with veneers -- ultra thin porcelain shells that are permanently bonded to teeth.

Suffice to say, today's new cosmetic dentistry technologies can give you the healthy, natural looking smile you've always wanted and that will last for years.

Is cosmetic dentistry worth the time and cost?
Cosmetic dentistry doesn't necessarily mean you will have to spend thousands of dollars out of pocket. If you have old crowns that are beginning to deteriorate, your dental insurance may cover part of the cost to replace them. If your teeth are stained but are straight and healthy, teeth whitening, a less costly procedure, may be all you need to look and feel beautiful. Although insurance typically doesn't cover veneers, for people who have lived with misshapen teeth or "gaps," the results are tremendous -- from increased self-esteem to being able to confidently smile again without having to worry about the look of one's teeth.

Ask your cosmetic dentist if he or she offers computer imaging, a relatively new technology. With computer imaging, your dentist can show you the results of any procedure -- before you have the work done.

Will a new smile really change my life?
Restoring or enhancing your smile is a bit like buying a new wardrobe. You know how you feel in clothes that are worn and no longer current -- you feel tired, frumpy, and "blue."

Hiding your teeth by not smiling, or feeling self-conscious about your yellow or crooked teeth, exacts the same toll.

Many of my patients have told me that cosmetic dentistry has given them a new lease on life. Many liken it to getting a new haircut or makeover. And, because you're now sporting a beautiful smile, a new confident you shows through.
