Frequently Asked Questions about Cosmetic Dentistry

How will you design my new smile?
Dr. Smith will consult with you to learn more about you. This initial consultation also includes viewing your teeth and determining which procedure is best for your situation. Dr. Smith uses the latest in computer imaging technology to show you the results of your procedure before she actually begins any work. From there, each procedure requires customization. For example, if you are getting veneers, she will take impressions.

Will my new smile look natural?
Yes, your new smile will look completely natural. Many of our clients have told us that people often ask, "Did you get a haircut?" "Have you lost weight?" They know something is different but can't tell what it is.

How long does a cosmetic dental procedure take?
Depending on the procedure, treatment time can vary from one office visit to several weeks.

I have heard veneers are expensive and don't last very long. Is this true?
You can get two types of veneers: composite or porcelain. Composite veneers are typically applied in one office visit; because they aren't as durable as porcelain veneers, they do tend to break easily. Please see our Dental Veneers page for more information about prefered MAC veneers.

What is the Las Vegas Institute?
Located in Las Vegas, Nevada, the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies is the world's premier post-graduate dental training school. Dentists from all over the world attend LVI to further their education and learn advanced cosmetic dentistry techniques. Because LVI graduates are trained to take into account your unique concerns, hopes and dreams, they tend to create dental practices that are very different from the typical dental office with which you are familar. LVI graduates are not bound by insurance mandates and work to ensure patient care is their #1 priority. Dr. Smith is one of two LVI trained cosmetic dentists in the Boston area.

I am afraid to visit the dentist. Do you practice "sedation dentistry"?
Yes, we offer various methods for easing our guests' anxiety. Our office is not a typical dentist's office - when you walk in, you'll be surrounded by a luxurious décor that includes a soothing waterfall and aromatherapy. Depending on your treatment and level of anxiety, our sedation dentistry methods include topical gels that numb the gums as well as low-dose valium.

Do you accept insurance?
Yes, we accept major insurances but please remember insurance does not cover all dental work 100%. Please check with your provider to see what is covered.

For those of you whose companies in the local Boston area recently began offering Delta Dental, Dr. Smith does accept this insurance. We are accepting new patients and are happy to talk with you about your dental needs. Call 617-327-1350 to schedule your private consultation.

Can I come to you for regular cleanings, too?
Yes, we offer full service dental care and recommend regular check ups and cleanings to screen for disease.
