Now You Can Relax with Advanced Pain-Free Sedation Dentistry Techniques
Afraid to visit the dentist? You aren't alone. Over 100 million North Americans jeopardize their oral health because they're afraid to visit the dentist for regular check-ups. The sound of drills, the pointy dental instruments, and the thought of pain terrify millions of people to such an extent that they will neglect their oral health for years - sometimes decades or more!
If this describes you, please know you're not alone. Thankfully, new techniques have all but eliminated the pain - and the fear - associated with visiting the dentist.
Eliminate Pain with Sedation Dentistry
Dr. Helaine Smith and her staff understand the anxiety people feel when it comes to visiting the dentist – which is why we work hard to minimize it the minute you walk in the door. Both Dr. Smith and Dr. Abboud are certified sedation dentists, and as such, both dentists will talk to you before any work is begun. Once we know the level of your fear and anxiety, either one of us can use a number of techniques to help you relax and/or eliminate pain including:
- Discussing the procedure with you in detail so that you understand what is being done and why
- Using topical gels to temporarily numb the gums
- Employing improved local anesthetics, such as Septocaine, which provide profound numbing
- Giving sedative drugs taken orally, such as Valium or Triazolam, which lower anxiety
Dr. Smith’s and Dr. Abboud’s Sedation Dentistry Credentials
Dr. Smith holds a credential for advanced conscious sedation techniques. Dr. Abboud is certified in Intravenous Sedation, a certification administered by the California Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. A complex procedure, IV Sedation introduces drugs into the bloodstream via IV and is used only when oral surgery is required. IV Sedation allows Dr. Abboud to perform advanced surgical procedures while allowing patients to feel relaxed and in control during the procedure. Caryn, our surgical Registered Nurse (RN), oversees all IV Sedation procedures in order to ensure your comfort and safety.
New Dental Technologies Increase Your Comfort
In addition to sedation dentistry, we also use new tools and materials that help ease your pain, increase your comfort, and lower anxiety, including:
- Comfort Control Syringe - Instead of a sharp, scary needle, Dr. Smith uses a new pump that sends the numbing medication to the area at a controlled rate. You don't feel anything - in fact, many patients say in amazement, "Was that the needle?!" It is truly painless. (For a demonstration, please see Dr. Smith’s YouTube video.)
- Tooth bonding adhesives - When you chip a tooth, Dr. Smith can simply and quickly repair it with a tooth colored adhesive material. To get the material to bond to a tooth's surface, Dr. Smith shines a blue light on it. Again, this is a completely painless procedure.
- One-visit crowns - We now have in our office the new high-end Sirona CEREC machine, which allows us to make a crown while you wait and place it in your mouth in the same visit. This means less drilling, fewer injections, and significantly lower anxiety.
Don't let your fear and anxiety prevent you from getting the dental care you need and the smile make-over you've always wanted. For more information about our cosmetic sedation dentistry techniques, please call our office at 617-327-1350 to schedule a private consultation.
