Professional Tooth Whitening: The ZOOM! Teeth Whitening System

If you've seen the television show Extreme Makeover, you may know about ZOOM! the wonderful system for quickly and easily whitening yellow or discolored teeth.

Whether you want whiter teeth for a big event, such as your wedding or 20-year high school reunion, or you just want to feel younger and more self-assured, professionally applied tooth whitening treatments like ZOOM! can give you significantly whiter teeth in just one visit.

Many people mistakenly refer to teeth whitening systems like ZOOM! as "laser whitening" because of the blue light used in the whitening process. However, the light is not a laser, but rather a low-heat emitting blue light, and the entire process is safe and effective.

How the ZOOM! Teeth Whitening System works:
A whitening gel of hydrogen peroxide is applied over your teeth. Then, we flash the Zoom! low-heat light on your teeth for fifteen minutes to activate and break down the hydrogen peroxide. As the hydrogen peroxide breaks down, it allows oxygen to enter your teeth and bleach the enamel. The process is repeated two more times -- ensuring you walk out our door 45 minutes later with a beautiful new smile.

Remove stains from teens’ teeth with microabrasion
If your teen has discolored permanent teeth due to braces, a trauma to baby teeth, prolonged illness or even too much fluoride, he or she may be a candidate for microabrasion. The procedure is very easy (it takes no more than 15 minutes), completely painless, and is a conservative and inexpensive way to remove tooth stains in younger patients.

Dr. Smith rubs a slurry type of compound on the teeth to remove surface stains and then applies a strong fluoride to protect the teeth’s surface. The procedure is suitable for all teens whose permanent teeth have come in and will not harm existing teeth or dental work. Although many stains can be removed, giving teens’ teeth a more natural appearance, not all stains can be removed with microabrasion, so please call Dr. Smith’s office for a consultation.
