Boston Dental Veneers: MAC Dental Porcelain Veneers

Also known as "teeth caps" and "tooth bonding," dental veneers are a new cosmetic dentistry technique that can eliminate the gaps between teeth, tooth discoloration due to medications or smoking, and broken or chipped teeth. When applied properly, veneers can dramatically change your appearance - giving you the smile you've always wanted. The advantages of dental veneers include:
  • Natural tooth appearance
  • Stain resistant
  • A "conservative" approach that doesn't require teeth to be reshaped
  • A viable alternative to braces
Composite vs. Porcelain Veneers
Composite veneers generally cost less than porcelain veneers. The procedure, usually completed in one office visit, consists of an application of bond and enamel applied directly to the teeth. The disadvantage with this type of veneer is the result can be "flat" and bulky looking. Because composite veneers are not durable, they break easily.

Porcelain veneers are custom-made shells of tooth-colored material that cover the front side of your teeth. Dr. Smith uses Micro Advanced Cosmetic (MAC) pressed porcelain veneers from MicroDental Laboratories in California. (You may have seen them advertised in upscale fashion magazines such as InStyle.)

These veneers are of the highest quality and are two times as strong as other types of veneers. MAC Veneers are also flexible enough to support a wider range of treatments and restorations and are less abrasive than traditional veneers. Excellent, natural looking results with MAC Veneers can be achieved in just a few hours or two to three visits, depending on what is being done.

If you're considering veneers, be sure to ask your cosmetic dentist what type of veneer you're getting. If you're being sold on a quick, low cost option, you may end up very unhappy with the results. Although MAC Veneers cost more and take a little longer, the result is a gorgeous, natural looking smile that will last you a lifetime.
