July 2007: Dr. Smith warmly welcomes Dr. Carlos Abboud as her new periodontist. In addition to his extensive experience in periodontics and implant surgery, Dr. Abboud was recently nominated as a Diplomate with the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI), a designation involving hundreds of rigorous case hours, authoring articles, and presenting cases before the ICOI board. Dr. Kwon recently returned to Korea for family reasons. We send our warmest wishes to him and thank him for his wonderful work here at the office. June 2007: Dr. Smith recently made available a series of podcasts regarding oral health and cosmetic dentistry. The first three of a series of planned broadcasts, the informative podcasts cover topics such as bad breath and its causes, frequently asked questions about cosmetic dentistry, and the questions people should ask dentists when considering veneers. Future broadcasts include the relationship between sex and oral health, dental care for the elderly, and the different methods of tooth whitening available. Read the pdf here. February 2007: Dr. Smith is pleased to announce she now offers CEREC ceramic dental restorations. If you need a crown or onlay, Dr. Smith can now fabricate the restorative material in one office visit. CEREC restorations mean you're in and out of the office -- with a beautifully restored tooth or teeth. January, 2007: Dr. Smith was recently featured in the West Roxbury Transcript. The article, "Get Your Smile On", describes Dr. Smith's philosophy about cosmetic dentistry. November 2006: Congratulations to Una Green, who participated in the recent Miss Massachusetts pageant. Ms. Green has been a long-time patient of Dr. Smith's. Dr. Smith was featured in the November issue of Dental Tribune for her work with the Give Back a Smile program. October 2006: Dr. Smith recently completed her first patient case for Give Back a Smile. Dr. Smith would like to help a veteran who needs cosmetic dentistry work. September 2006: Dr. Smith was featured in the Manhattanville College alumni magazine as a distinguished alumnus. Dr. Smith also began a continuing education program, which in 5+ years will result in her obtaining her mastership in the academy of general dentistry. Dr. Smith's office began offering patients Zoom 2, the new Zoom tooth whitening treatment that takes only 45 minutes. Dr. Smith donated a few Zoom 2 treatments to West Roxbury's local WRMS event. June 2006: Dr. Smith leaves for Africa in July where she will be doing voluntary dental work for the Friends of Ghana. Dr. Smith has also received the Readers Choice award for "Best Dentist" by Community Newspaper readers. This is the second time Dr. Smith has received this designation. May 2006: Helaine Smith, DMD has been named the first runner-up in the annual Cosmetic Practice of the Year Award competition. Dr. Smith's article, "Exceeding Patients' Esthetic Expectations and Goals" appeared in Contemporary Esthetics. April 2006: Reaching middle age and feeling like your looks are slipping? February 2006: Dr. Smith recently received her sedation dentistry credential from the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation (DOCS) and is now offering patients advanced sedation dentistry techniques. May 2005: Dr. Peter Kwon's research, "Maintenance of osseointegration utilizing insulin therapy in a diabetic rat model" was published in the April 2005 issue of Journal of Periodontology. Dr. Kwon is a Clinical Instructor at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. 
August 2005: Dr. Helaine Smith will be traveling to Brazil to help perform volunteer dentistry on children. This is Dr. Smith's 12th trip; she also is a volunteer dentist for Cape CARES, a group which helps elevate the lives of the poor and needy in Central America, specifically Honduras, and Operation Smile, a group that provides free reconstruction surgery to children in 25 developing countries and the U.S. Dr. Smith recently completed a rigorous three-year program where she studied full mouth reconstruction. Only 2% of the dentists in the U.S. have this capability. |
